New Members

Renfrew Kendo Dojo accepts new members all year round. Contact us for more information.

We are looking for highly motivated, highly determined people to help grow our dojo and support the Kendo community. If you are looking for a forum where you work hard and play just as hard, then we welcome you with open arms.

Membership fees go toward paying for rental space, other extra-curricular activities (Kendo camps, seminars, etc), and other events to help enrich the Kendo of the Dojo membership. Fees are collected in September of each year and are as follows:

Adults (working): $400.00
Adults (student 16 and over): $300.00
Children (under 15 years old): $200.00
Family Discounts: $50 off additional member from same family

We recommend watching one of our practices first to get an idea of what to expect. Then, if you would like to try one of our classes, we recommend coming to another class to try it out for free. Please wear comfortable athletic wear to the class. We will loan you a shinai (bamboo sword).

RKD believes in “the cycle” that makes up the Dojo – the Instructor must teach to the best of their abilities, where the students must learn with the best of their abilities. Instructors and students alike must feel a sense of gratitude toward each other – the mutual gratitude completes “the cycle”.

Eriko Taguchi – 4th Dan: Having been involved in kendo for over 30 years, Eriko-sensei is integral in fostering the community aspect of the dojo through on-boarding of new members and ensuring that everyone feels welcome.

Makoto Hasegawa – 4th Dan: a student of nitoryu, Hasegawa sensei is a dedicated member of RKD.

Max Rose – 4th Dan: His agility and fierceness of his Kendo seems opposite to his kind, gentle personality. Max shows extreme dedication to RKD, as he currently holds the RKD monthly attendance record.
